Case: Warm and human Wheelchair

Assignment

Etac wanted to build a wheelchair for users aged 70 and older. The goal was to enter the international market with a cost- effective product. Etac were looking for a wheelchair with the watchwords “warm and human”.

Solution

Semcon was hired to develop a manufacturing platform and was part of a project group. Designers and engineers developed a pro- duct with fewer different parts and more multi-functional details. The wheelchair has many moulded parts made completely of aluminium. This leads to a lighter frame and a more energy- and cost-effective manufac- turing process.

Result

After eight months of work the Etac M100 was presented at a trade show in Germany last summer. Etac received a lot of positive feed- back on the wheelchair, both from customers and the media. The success- ful cooperation on the Etac M100 has led to several joint projects between Semcon and Etac.
